Reliance’s Chintee – A search engine or Local deals engine?

Reliance is using the good old BigAdda strategy to garner user attention for their new product – Chintee.comTo keep up the steam and interest, they are asking users what Chintee.com is:
And the options are:

  • Search Engine.
  • Comparison Engine
  • Video search
  • People Search
  • Collaborative Search
  • All of the above

Funny that 38% users think it’s all of the above!

Here is my take – It’s None of the Above, ‘coz if Chintee is one of the above, it’s doomed to meet the same fate as BigAdda.

I don’t care what it is – but IMHO, here is what it should be::

Like a Chintee, which goes after the sweet market, Reliance should also go after the sweet/untouched market.

Frankly, I don’t see any reason why Reliance should step into tech intensive businesses like building a search engine (even though the search engine business has huge money)

Reliance’s core strength lies in retail and distribution (and that will drive Zapak’s success and BigFlicks success as well), and ideally, I expect them to leverage on their retail reach and build a local deals engine.

An engine that brings local deals to the online world – powered by Reliance’s retail arm .

What do you say? What is Chintee? Is it worth talking about (after the BigAdda’s damp squib show)?

I completely agree with you that Chintee will be a disaster if its a search engine! Imagine some geek working for Reliance !! :-o

I loved the sentence” Imagine a geek working for Reliance” :-D

Well, I think you have hit the nail right there on the head. And I couldnt agree with you that if Reliance is building a search engine, its doomed to fail.
And most of their success has been on the retail form (for e.g.they are setting multi seats gaming zones in India to promote Zapak…)

Rather than trying to be a all in one search……i would really like them to concentrate on People search. Spock is creating waves abroad…

With a population as big as ours….with a literate population as big as ours….with internet penetration rising with each passing minute…..a people search is something which would make the most sense.

I dont think they shd even go for people search..first of all do you have the people database? NO.
    Should Reliance build that? NO

Chintee, as Ashish pointed out has a sweet tooth (figuratively speaking!)…and I am sure Reliance will not waste their money in BS options..
Unless and until they want to repeat the BigAdda story

What I am surprised about is –
Why would anyone give out those choices before release? What if maximum people vote for (say) search engine – would they make it a search engine?

One never knows – they may actually have something based on top of (say Google) and search for videos.
