Alibaba India partners with Infomedia

Alibaba India has partnered with Infomedia for their India portal – http://www.alibaba.com/countrysearch/IN/India.html

Last year, Alibaba raised $1.7 billion via IPO and plans to use ~60% of the fund raised for strategic acquisitions and global expansion – apart from India, the company is also making inroads into Philipines, Thailand, Vietnam etc – i.e. emerging markets, which aren’t very structured but has huge upside potential.

Alibaba currently has ~400K Indian suppliers and is targeting the 8 mn Indian SMEs that account for nearly 40% of the country’s industrial output.

According to industry estimates three million SMEs are engaged in B2B trade and around a million are in the export business. With this partnership, Alibaba.com is expecting to double its Indian membership base in the near future.

Other players in this market include companies like IndiaMart and TradeIndia.

      Alibaba, IndiaMart, TradeIndia – all the biggies of the industries. They sure do command a huge customer base but while looking for similar sites I bumped across and website that looks quite promising. Bizedia is what its called and by the looks of it they seem to be making inroad into this fast emerging industries.
