It’s official – Indian roads are the deadliest

Couple of years back, Lalu Yadav compared roads in Bihar with Om Puri’s cheeks and vowed to make it look like Hema Malini’s.

Years later, it seems the Indian roads have seriously taken a cheeky route and we officially have the deadliest roads in the world.

With 130,000 deaths last year, India tops in the number of people killed in road accidents, surpassing China’s 90,000. And, most of these deaths occurred due to bad road designs and lack of proper traffic management systems to separate different streams of traffic – source

As per International Road Federation, India accounts for ~10% of the million-plus fatal accidents in the world each year.

Is govt. really serious about these numbers? No! – they are busy doing some shallow bans!

Fatalities per million is a better measure than the absolute numbers.

I think we will still top it. And with tiny Tata Nanos running around alongside big Volvos and the ever increasing sales figures of Hero Hondas etc. the chinese (or anyone else) don’t stand a chance of catching up.

    3. Ravi says:

Just re-read it, thought i missed something, the people. Source says 85% fatalities are cyclists and pedestrians. So only 20k die inside or on top of a motorized vehicle hmm. Maybe the Nanos are good after all, as all those silly cyclists and pedestrians will be inside and stop giving India a bad name.

I absolutely loved Lalu Prasad Yadav’s quote. hahahahahahahahahahahahahahaha!!!
