HTC Smart Launched in India at affordable price

Smartphones are being launched in India at affordable prices (even though Nokia and Apple believe that they can charge a highly premium price) and now, HTC has launched its ‘Smart’ phone [in exclusive partnership with Airtel] just for Rs, 9,990/.

HTC Smart Specification

  • Operating System: Brew® Mobile Platform
  • Memory: ROM: 256 MB, RAM: 256 MB
  • 3 MP Camera
  • 2.8-inch TFT-LCD touch-sensitive screen

HTC Smart also comes with Scenes—different phone configurations that reflect different moods in your daily self. There’s a mode for your busy weekdays, filling your home screen with panels that help you ease on through your workdays with apps like email, calendar and the web browser.

Touchscreen phone at an affordable price – compare this with Nokia or iPhone and you will notice the huge gap. Who is reading the market correctly?

    1. Nokia has launched 5230 and 5233 recently with price of 8500 and 7000 which are better smartphones. So I can say Nokia is reading market correctly but yes nothing can be said about IPhone.

        @Deependra
these 2 nokia models that you mention are more like multimedia devices for the masses rather than truly “Smart” phones.

Also, IMHO, nokia doesn’t make “smart” phones ;-)

Sorry Dude! I guess you need to know what a Smart phone actually is!!!
Its an experience completely different altogether………Go through surfing one; and with an Android platform, capacitive AMOLED tochscreen you’l actually feel the pump. Your emails and internet accounts are managed like never before, plus almost all have a out of the crowd processor speeds! These phones make you work less.
Regarding Nokia 5233, these are one of the worst functioned phones ever made by Nokia. The touchscreen is irritating, some times single, sometimes double clicks to open a function. They say its with GPS…. but reality demands an extra device with Bluetooth access. Surfing just doesn’t need only a big screen, but more. And I don’t know why the hell Nokia calls it Music Express>?>> Its not even Music ‘Local train’! Speakers are screwed up!
Dude! Only fancy looks doesn’t give you the ultimate experience in the Cellular world. In my opinion those should have been plced within Rs. 5000-5500
        5800 is far better though.
Smartphones are smartphones Dude! Happy Surfing

    2. mandar says:

Seems there is some confusion – the phone specs says the platform is BREW – which is CDMA where the Airtel uses only GSM.

    3. Pradeep says:

Nokia is doing it right.. but with launch of such phone at such a good and affordable price they have to re-think their pricing structure

    6. Sandeep says:

Of course HTC SMART would be a better phone
as compared to nokia 5230 but if HTC is seriously eyeing the indian market then it should lauch some cheap phones to give nokia a run for their money !

    7. Vibs says:

Before going for HTC SMART– better read reviews about this phone everywhere to get an idea. I had purchased this handset a month ago and ever since has been lying at the service centre bcos of Network failure

and Battery malfunction. I got a replacement and I was happy . The company people said that there was a problem

with the earlier handset- I had already got the software update done for it atleast 3 times . But again the new

handset also had the same problems .As advised by the service centre – I got my SIM changed but to no avail. So

Beware . It is a cheap Smartphone with features that would make u feel that u should instead have purchased some

other phone- each time u handle it. The FM sound is so low – u have to b in a soundproof room to hear it well . The

phone takes ever so long to boot- more than 2 minutes.

@Vibs…I’m using HTC Touch Diamond2 and this is my second HTC phone. My first one was, HTC Touch. I never had problems with any of the phones. I think, Nokia’s quality has fallen way too behind and that’s the reason Nokia’s market share has fallen considerably. You just cannot compare Nokia with HTC. Nokia thought Indian market is a joke and its now itself is a joke.

    8. Bikash says:

HTC Smart, its name Smart but its not a smart Phone.

can u tell me the exact price of htc smart phone.
        when u it was purchased?
        reply me plz plz plz…………at

        • Jamil Sayed says:

Sanjay, I purchased HTC Smart at a price Rs. 7400 around two monts ago. But now the price is found to be Rs. 7000 only. HTC does not supply memory card. So you have to purchase it separately.

    13. Jamil Sayed says:

HTC Smart is an worst handset. The battery back up is irritating. I charged the battery at 10 p.m. and went to sleep. In the next morning, I found the battery fully exhausted !!

This phone hangs frequently and restarts again.

The sound quality during incoming calls is very bad. I feel annoyed to attend any call on the street.

I suggest everybody to avoid this phone. HTC simply cheated me.

    14. chandrajan says:

Don’t buy this bad phone. OS is very very slow. It is disturbing to surfing.
Battery is poor. The phone tends to hang.

    15. chandrajan says:

No, it has no wi-fi. U will not be able to go to youtube.
Moreover, the battery is the worst. If the phone is kept idle for 2 hours, the battery charge will be exhausted.

Frequently it hangs. U have to open the back panel and pull out the battery. Again u have to insert it. If u have to do this job every day, will u be happy ?

U have to connect the electric plug all the day and use it like a land phone. Now it’s price Rs. 7400 will be worthy ?

    16. Pradip Tandon says:

I purchased this phone just one month in Mumbai. During this short period, I am really tired to give charge to the battery. How I will go to my office and talk to people over phone when the battery goes down after 3 to 4 calls. Is it possible to give charge standing on the road ? Is it possible to charge the battery in the resturant ? This phone is a big headache.

I was attracted to buy it seeing its design. The touchscreen works well. But all is in vain due to its battery. Why HTC is cheating Indian customers ?

    21. Alok says:

Dear friends, take my sincere advice>> don’t go for or even think of HTC Smart at all. Don’t fall prey to its looks. I bought this phone from Home Town (Future Group) NOIDA for Rs 7500, six months back.
The phone hangs every now and then.I have become accustomed to the message that reads..Oops..there’s a system error…Restarting…
