Now there is a lot of theology explaining the event, but for some strange reasons, I’d like to believe in the Gravitational Significance more than on the theological ones. Here is an interesting description of how the Mayan calender works. It is noteworthy to observe how intricately the calendar calculates the earth cycles using fine Orbital Shifts, Solar Flares, and other tiny little Gravitational parameters which only people with astronomical intellect can understand. Gravitationally, the date is noted as the end of the ‘long count‘ where earth is positioned exactly between Jupiter & Sun – two heaviest of objects in the solar system.
Now can someone please tell me how the Aztec Calendar discovered on a piece of rock claim the end of the world so profoundly? And how could the Mayans be so hi-tech in astronomy as to account for Orbital & Polar Shifts in their long-count calendar? Lastly, is the gravity of the two objects – Jupiter & Sun – really gonna stretch us out flat? Or would it be yet another opportunity for money-bees to sell a lot of merchandise while helping you tide over the impending tragedy. Looks like another win-win situation, is it?

There are other time keepers that have been given the gift of keeping time, you’d be wise to heed the warnings, the Mayans do not predict the end of the world they predict the end of a time, what time it is is up to all of us.
Hmmm yeah Josko, I saw this thing getting covered very scientifically on Discovery too. I like the way the gone-by civilization must have handled the calculations. It’s not the end of time, rather a change into something else – probably better. And for now its a business opportunity for sure…:)
I do not think that will be dooms day but dooms day will surely be after 2026 when scientists are telling that some big asteroid is going to hit the earth and after that earth spinning will change everything due to dusty clouds making the humans, animals and all living things problem of survival due to bad weather and respiratory problems

Interestingly, according to Indian Mythology / Puranas, It is said the Kal Yuga will end in 2012. And Sat-Yuga Begins in about 108 years from 2012, and during this period large chunk 80% of Human population will vanish from Earth.
Year 2012 marks as a birth of 10th Vishnu Awatar, God shri Kalki will be born 12 days from the full moon day (after 14th/15th April), This will next occur around 22nd May 2012, when Moon, Sun, Venus & Jupiter are in Taurus.
At the end of Kali Yuga (present eon) He will punish all evil doers in this world, destroy this world supposedly and recreate a golden age again.
It also says Sri Kalki will be born in small town about 80kms from Hyderabad (AP India).
Even Sir. Nostradamus in 1555 AD has confirmed Lord Kalki’s arrival in 2012. And that coincides with End of Time (Kal Yuga).
There exist Lord Kalki Temple in Rajastan India, Built by King of Jaipur in 1727 AD. The temple has a deserted look and is closed since 1727, it has been waiting for the arrival of the Lord to whom it is devoted and it is currently closed. It will open only around 22nd May 2012.

The end of the current Mayan long count points to a time when the earth and sun will be aligned with the galactic center. Whether or not that is the indication of a change is up to interpretation I suppose. All the Mayan’s have really done is mapped the stars and created a calendar based on the movement of stars.
The media has certainly jumped onto the 2012 hype, but for whatever reason, the mainstream media loves to just focus on the Mayan aspect of this date. I think this gives people the wrong impression of what this is all about. The media focus on the Mayan calendar just leads to people thinking the whole thing is silly because they don’t see how a bunch of ancient Mayans could have predicted anything important about a specific date in the future.
But the 2012 date – or a time period encompassing the 2012 date – has been predicted to be a period of disaster or change by other cultures from all around the world…in some cases, the predictions were made long before the Mayans created their calendar. Yet, most people are not familiar with these other predictions. The media has failed to cover this topic adequately, which has led to a lot of people making fun of the whole thing because they think it’s some sort of primitive Mayan prediction.
The date may or may not have any real significance in regards to events happening on earth, but it does legitimately point to a time when the earth will be in a particular astronomical position in space. Whether or not this is significant to you, it is still a remarkable achievement in calendar making.
What about the Gamma Ray Burst concept? Maybe this is going to be the time in which we finally feel the consequences of staring down that shotgun barrell for so long. We could essentially be sucked down the center of the black hole (that has been a threat since the beginning of time), and all things could become anti-matter. Well, if we knew much about anti-matter, we might know.
Of coarse, as everyone else, I have my own theorys of what could happen in 2012. I think the Earth may
#1 – shift its axis, making our environments shift their composition. ie, desert where there is ocean. Or, cause major flooding, ie, 40 days, 40 nights.
Or
#2 – It could be a time of miracles and God could erase all the evil in the world (if you want to be a half full kind of person, like I WANT to be).
I was wondering why I felt so flat! Every year when the earth passes between the sun and Jupiter, we get flattened out…no, wait, that’s supposed to be ONLY on 21 dec 12. Now I’m confused. Perhaps it is because the gravity of the sun is so strong (evidently) that we get sucked off the earth every day, and also lift up into the air when Jupiter rises…. damn, no that does not happen either. The sun barely affects tides in the oceans. We don’t even notice it.
Could it be that the people who come up with this nonsense don’t know the first thing about physics, astronomy, common sense?
