Very fishy, but just found out that Google is redirecting traffic to iGoogle (for logged in users) [typed
Google.com in the URL and Google redirects me to iGoogle page]
Not sure whether this is happening for all the users, but I guess these tactics are part of bucket testing (a testing typically carried out during non-peak hours, for few user ids spread across certain geographies – to test few site changes).
Clicking “classic home” takes me back to the search home page.
iGoogle even though it’s one of the wildly growing properties of Google hasn’t matched with MyYahoo and driving traffic could be one of the strategy (or the only strategy?) to increase awareness/adoption.
Google is testing ads on iGoogle as well, so very likely that they will try out more such strategy to increase adoption.
Is it me only or somebody else has also faced a similar redirection?

This has been happening for ages since Google IG released wonder how you are seeing it only now, clicking on classic home will no longer direct it to the Google IG page though
You mean the redirection? Not for me atleast..
This has happened me 3 times during late night.
“google redirection has been been happening for ages…”

you might be an early starter but “you are a disgrace to indian tech bloggers”
@uRaN00b,
Take it easy man. Dont just underestimate others. Analyse Ashish based on his content: if you cant then you are not worth the words mentioned
““you are a disgrace to indian tech bloggers””: Tell me any blogger doing the way plugdd.in is doing.
Blogging from experience is different from Blogging from reading 500 to 1000 feeds.
Just by knowing tools does not make you famous.
Refresh you mind dude.
@uRaNoob –
product-wise igoogle is @par with myyahoo & netvibes – I am talking stats. Do you have access to comscore? Check the stats for yourself – MyYahoo ~250mn, while iGoogle is just 57mn.
Dont talk like a “self proclaimed guru” when you dont have the balls to write under your original name
And using iGoogle doesn’t make u a guru, if that’s your definition of oldb!

Yes, this has been happening for at least the past year here in the U.S. The redirect is ultimately what encouraged me start using the iGoogle page, so I guess the strategy worked pretty well in my case.
was happenin fr quite a long time in my case…. then they jus stopped doin that…
… they r known to test things … nd they keep it doing … all the times… m sure if you open google home page say for next few times.. click on “classic google home page” for a every time they redirect you to igoogle .. they learn what next they are supposed to do.. they won drop u at igoogle…
isnt
Now this is weird, our corporate network is showing one or the other user logged into iGoogle. When anyone opens Google web page he is redirected to iGoogle and shows some user logged in. I initially thought that this may be because of the websense server caching things and displaying it but even cleaning the websense cache did not help. It does not seem to pose a threat but creating unwanted chaos. Being an Information security manager, this problem is getting on my nerves, people are complaining. Anybody found anything on this???
@Mohit
We’re having the same problem here, only it’s a school network. The theory is, that when you click the iGoogle link on the google home page, you get a cookie that makes iGoogle your default page for your next visit. However, our students don’t have roaming profiles, so it looks like they are all being affected by one person’s click. Add to this that our LEA (Local Educational Authority) who controls our Internet link filters out iGoogle for time wasting, and we can’t even get students to use the “Classic Homepage” link to get back. I’m still for an answer
