Google cooks something new every fortnight, but here we have put our effort to take you through the plans and other upcoming ideas in Googleplex.
In the recent development, we have heard of Gmail offline avatar, (yes Goog is building an email client which will enable you to access your emails and contacts offline, just like the way you do with Outlook.) as well as GPhone.
These are Google’s global plans, what about the Indian Internet Industry? Here is one speculation – IPTV.
What if Google launches an IPTV service in India? A service which would take a leaf out of Joost and will bring the IPTV boom in the growing Indian and south Asian markets. Agreed that the major roadblock for IPTV in India is the Broadband penetration. To solve this, Google can partner with Indian broadband companies and well, don’t be surprised if we have a 10 MBps bandwidth at our homes in next 6 months [powered by Google].
What’s your take?
A few facts about Google’s India Interest:
- Google maps are being enhanced and geo location will be imprinted on the Google Maps version for the Indian cities.
- Google has invested closed to INR 100 crores in the Indian VC industry.
By the way, another rumour: Google is building a PDF writer and a reader, as well as a flash plugin??? Is Adobe watching?

“10 MBps bandwidth at our homes in next 6 months” … who are you kidding man..
Next 6 years… maybe.. thats a distant dream in a country where 256 kbps (kbps with a lowercase k) is considered broadband.
They’re simply collaborating with Airtel for the mobile services market and with Airtel already coming up with its own DTH and IPTV services, I don’t think they need a partnership with Goog in that space.
Google will never do that…
well, technology changes in a break neck speed, and u wait for 6 years?? a small village in finland has a 50 Mbps network connection…
well, wait for changes to happen, its unbelievable at this point though, but the market penetration and new entrants such as VODAPHONE could trigger the spark.
FYI : BSNL broadband [OFC's] has the capability of serving 10 Mbps with the existing infrastructure…
Well……think of Google, think of change!
Interesting..your post might have some truth !
I have heard of these rumours about Google’s IPTV interest in India..
google has some intresting way of creating buzz for every thing. But lets remember even google is’t god.It has its week points and one of it is that it tries to put its fingers in too many asses
@Sri…
It’s been almost 3 years since “broadband” was introduced in India, it’s only last year we’ve had a 256 unlimited connection (about Rs. 900) , and this year Tata indicom launched a 512 kbps unlimited connection (about Rs 1800), I’m basically talking about an affordable internet connection, available to the common man, not the one you can get by spending Lakhs of green.. so by that pace, I guess for a true 10 mbps connection, 6 years is a pretty decent time frame given the current growth
And yes, a village in Finland can have 50 Mbps connection, forget India, can you get the same even in the US of A.. ?? Max you can get is about 10-15 Mbps that too with a cap (I think you’ve heard what Comcast released recently).
Rishi – BSNL is already testing it’s IPTV service in Bangalore..les leave the 10MBPs part, but I will not be surprised about Google’s IPTV story..
Rishi…
Well,l I am sorry to hear about your grievance,I feel u r letting down how a Indian Technology can take a leap.
Few thoughts:
Wimax > is launched simultaneously in INDIA and most of the prototype and hardware features are built in Bangalore….and through WIMAX u could reach a speed of 7 Mbps when u r traveling at a speed of 80 Km/hr… there r myths which could en cash in observing WIMAX could reach 70 Mbps…
Well i don;t’ c why a 10 MBps line is still out of reach, its duly possible in days to come, as i say its only upto Telecom Ministry to give a green signal for high speed broadband, and lobbying is for sure happening around, why should INDIA always lack behind
A singapore firm has clocked the 100 Mbps connectivity speed, and very much on a willing note to share this with Satyam [Sify] and if u got to believe Chennai – Singapore has a under sea connectivity running fro high speed internet.
Well if u still unhappy with 256kbps , kindly contact Reliance Wimax, they offer 512kbps – 2 Mbps Wireless connectivity for damn cheap price…
India is shining buddy!
lets move ahead and be part of it
Just a reality check.. thw Wimax service by Reliance altough capable, as Sri said, isn’t upto the mark yet, you can read reviews of it at mouthshut
http://www.mouthshut.com/product-reviews/Reliance_Broadnet_Broadband-925035668.html
Dude.. Indian technology has already taken a leap.. I don’t question that, if you have DSL at your home, you can go upto 10 Mbps easily.. but the real question is whether the service providers want to give you that.. it’s very surprising to notice a Sarkari company BSNL taking the lead in providing better plans.. the best example is the speed upto 2 mbps they offered and Airtel frantically trying to match it (although they haven’t been able to, which again talks about their capabilities). Same is the story with WIMAX, Reliance is providing pathetic service and the speeds are nowhere near those promised, not to talk about the service/support being provided.

The above mentioned things are crap. It’s a part of google to create buzz with rumor. It has happened in past. They have earlier talked of broadband & wi-fi through your commode.
Its for all of you who say Indian technology is shining & leaping. I am sure no leaps can get google to bring wi-fi through your toilets.
Get real guys. Its an internet services company & not an ISP.
10Mbps lines require time & investment. Chill out!
Its 2010 march .. 2.5 years .. and still no Google 10Mbps connections …
