Blogosphere – By the bloggers, Of the Bloggers and For the Bloggers.

Businessweek has published an interesting article ‘Best of Web 2006′ – which is result of a survey conducted over a period of past few months.

The results have been organized into 4 groups – Information Overload, Money Matters, Not at Work, and Do-It-Yourself Web.

Here are the winners:

  • Blogs – TechCrunch tops the blog list,
  • News – Google news makes the perfect news
  • Buying/Selling category – Craiglist
  • Finance – Yahoo Finance
  • Social Networking – Bebo
  • Blogging Tools – WordPress (1st), Blogger (2nd)!!
  • Photosharing – Flickr (quite obvious)
  • Webmail – Gmail tops the list, followed by Y! and Hotmail. The most surprising entry is tempinbox.com
  • Video – YouTube (obvious), but am sure this will change by the next year.
  • Jobs – Monster is pushed to 2nd place by SimplyHired.
  • Collaboration tools – Wikipedia tops the list (I wonder how wikipedia is part of this list – people don’t collaborate using it!), followed by Central Desktop, Jotspot and Basecamp.

The survey also asked BW readers to rate their favourite blogs. And the top 12 are:

  • Tech Crunch
  • Paul Kedrosky’s Infectious Greed
  • Gothamist
  • Seth’s Blog
  • Chris Baggott
  • Scobleizer
  • Blog Maverick
  • Internet Outsider
  • Scripting News
  • BoingBoing
  • Feld Thoughts
  • endgadget
