Businessweek has published an interesting article ‘Best of Web 2006′ – which is result of a survey conducted over a period of past few months.
The results have been organized into 4 groups – Information Overload, Money Matters, Not at Work, and Do-It-Yourself Web.
Here are the winners:
- Blogs – TechCrunch tops the blog list,
- News – Google news makes the perfect news
- Buying/Selling category – Craiglist
- Finance – Yahoo Finance
- Social Networking – Bebo
- Blogging Tools – Wordpress (1st), Blogger (2nd)!!
- Photosharing – Flickr (quite obvious)
- Webmail – Gmail tops the list, followed by Y! and Hotmail. The most surprising entry is tempinbox.com
- Video – YouTube (obvious), but am sure this will change by the next year.
- Jobs – Monster is pushed to 2nd place by SimplyHired.
- Collaboration tools – Wikipedia tops the list (I wonder how wikipedia is part of this list – people don’t collaborate using it!), followed by Central Desktop, Jotspot and Basecamp.
