Rediff invests in Vakow

Rediff has invested an undisclosed sum (which as RG tells me is not a huge amount) in Vakow (read our earlier covearge)

Vakow is gaining popularity in youth segment and the Mumbai based startup has tried lot of interesting ways to gain inroads (integrated with Orkut, which was blocked later).

Vakow plans to use this fund for expanding the team.

Congrats to RG and his team (am glad that pluGGd.in was the first one to introduce Vakow :) )

Good part about investment from a big co. is that it validates your business model and opens up the door for investors.

    1. cool news ..Congrats to RG and His Team

    2. gud to see that indian companies too are adopting this route (of investment) rather than setting up their own…

anyone having any idea if sms ad based business model is really working for such startups (like mginger, vakow, smsgupshup, 160by2 etc) ? I signed-up on mginger few months back but still not getting enough ads, so not sure if advertisers are really relying on this medium.

Also, I visited smsgupshup website today and found couple of new things are out thr like API, enterprise mobile messaging platform, premium groups etc. It seems they are also trying to explore other revenue streams besides sms ads.
