India Angel Network Invests half a million dollar in HungryZone

IAN(India Angel Network) has invested in HungryZone, Bangalore based startup.

HungryZone started as a Bangalore based food ordering site (HungryBangalore) and later expanded to Bhopal, Chandigarh, Delhi, Goa, Indore, Jaipur, Mumbai and Kolkata.

The details have not been disclosed, but the investment amount (afaik) is close to half a million $.

Congrats to the HZ team – this is surely a much needed cash for HungyZone to kick ass of other foodie sites. They are the oldest player and it’s high time they start distribution via partner sites.

What’s your take on HZ? If you have tried their service, what feedback do you have for them?

I have tried their service couple of time and I found the entire process very smooth – except for the fact that they should integate sms confirmation too. If they have to expand, they should seriously think of a “Click to call’ service, otherwise having an operational aspect is just not scalable (and doesn’t justifies the cost incurred).

Thats interesting. Firstly it’s IAN and secondly it’s HungryBangalore.

    Keep up the execution Priyanka.

Congratulations to the HZ team – they’ve been around for a while and have had the resilience to stick it out. While their product is responsive, and fairly comprehensive, I hope they spend some of the capital raised in sprucing up their user interface. While I think that the recipes etc. that they have are interesting, I think they should focus on trying to pushing discount offers from restaurants they’ve partnered with (in exchange for some sort of kickback).

Congrats Priyanka, Ritesh and the rest of the gang!
We’ve been believers for some time in your do-it attitude and perseverance, and good to see the faith from an investor too!
Of course, getting the funding is where the battle just starts :) Wish you guys a lot of growth, and a great curve ahead.

Cool! Its a very neat effort.. a little unhappy with the UI though. The dish details on mouse over are incorrect and the amount is almost always incorrect. Once I ordered an extra dish just to get to the minimum order of delivery and later heard that the prices were lower than actuals. So ended up ordering an extra dish that I shudnt have had to. Anyways, I am sure they will pick those bugs out. Good luck and make us proud.

@Saee : Thanks for the feedback. We are aware of such issues in a few restaurants. We are looking at how best we can keep the data in sync with the restaurants. We hope to give you a better experience next time onwards. Please feel free to mail me at priyanka [at]hungrybangalore[dot]com if you would have any specific suggestions for us.
