Marketing for Internet companies in India?
  • What should be the best marketing channels for internet companies targeting small businesses in India? It seems internet marketing can get things started but the reach to small business owners is limited.

  • More inbound, less outbound.
    - Focus on creating authority instead of burning money on adsense - i.e. conduct workshops etc. which brings a lot more focused approach than a full-fledged adwords campaign.

  • Very costly to sell to small businesses in India, They are too dispersed. But still some have been successful like JustDial but they have a huge on the feet salesforce. Another success story is Tally which used the ChartedAccountant network channel to reach out
  • Initial sales would need to be oneself, but from thereon there are reseller networks that help reach out. There's also a large network of service providers to SMEs - hardware vendors, etc - whom one could partner with.

  • Reseller network can take care of sales but they rarely do the marketing part. Reseller network can help if you have healthy number of leads but struggling to close the sale
