Red Herring 100 Asia 2007The Red Herring 100 Asia award ceremony is on Aug 29-31, 2007 in Hong Kong. For the last decade, these lists have discovered & short-listed the most promising start-ups in the technology industry, and are highly regarded by investors, executives and observers alike.

The Top 100 award winners will be announced at the ceremony, but the 200 short-listed companies have been announced here.

I’ve identified 28 Indian companies (nearly 15%) that have made it to the finalists. Considering the list identifies companies that will lead the next wave of disruption and innovation, some names are obvious – like iXiGO, Paymate & Onyomo; while the majority of the names lead me to doubt the shortlisting process itself – like GlobalLogic, WEP Peripherals, kerela.com.

Following is a list of the Indian companies that have made it to the 200 finalists.

Congrats all, and wish you luck for bagging the award :)

not too sure about the relevance of RedHerring data!
Many companies aren’t worth in this list.

Anyways, good to see Indian startups going bigger..

  3. Raseel on August 12, 2007 at 8:58 am

I’m surprised Burrp.com is not listed.

  4. Tarun on August 12, 2007 at 4:19 pm

Yeah..I agree with Raseel and would actually question this list. Somehow I find this list a made up-in-hurry sort of list – not much effort has been made to get a good set of companies who deserve to be mentioned.

  5. Tamal on August 13, 2007 at 7:51 am

@Amit – Yeps, Good to see some of our buddies making it to the list :) . BTW Proteans merged with CAMO ASA, a Norwegian IT major.

@Steve, @Tarun – Yes, my first impression is along the same lines. The list is definitely not done. What about Zoho? If there’s one Indian company that should have made it to the list, it should have been Zoho.

    @Raseel – I miss Burrp too :(

i’ve heard these guys work under a 5-point criteria set – the companies that got listed must have scored high on one or the other relevant criteria..would be interesting to know these criteria..

CarWale.com and gameshashtra made it to the top 100 as well (I believe there are 13 comapnies finally, in the 100 list). CarWale in fact have some unique offering and it would be interesting to see how they scale now.

Its a great achievement for carwale.Com. Abruptly there is lots of buzz about carwale.Com right after Santosh Ghosh joins the company as Vice President. I know Santosh personally and I’m sure with Santosh on their emplotee list the company will do wonders in time to come. Congrats and good luck to the entire team of carwale.com

  16. Ashima on September 21, 2007 at 7:45 am

carwale.com is going places. Santosh is driving the ship in the right direction and in such a short span of time they have really made it big. Congrats to carwale.com
