‘Buffet Search’ for Hungry Bangalore!

December 28, 2009

Hungry Bangalore (HungryZone) introduces Buffet Search for the foodies. And it is a pretty interesting way of searching buffet options at any given point of time. For example it helps a visitor with:

  1. A double-slider to list buffets within a budget range.
  2. Buffet sorting based on Average Meal Price per person or Buffet Price
  3. Location and Cuisine based search
  4. Search based on Restaurent type AC/Non AC etc. and,
  5. Online Status/Reservation facility

HungryZone - For all ye Hungy souls

All in all its a great way for people to search for unlimited food with limited budget!

Hungry Zone is offering the buffet search only for Bangaloreans right now. But Mr. Ritesh Dwivedy, CEO of HungryZone confirms that Buffet Search will be available to other cities in a few months. While there are quite a few players in this field already like Justdial, Google, Yahoo and startups like FoodieBay, Yepme etc. none of them seems to be offering such a filter-based search tool.

Hungry Zone received an unconfirmed amount in funding (In our knowledge its close to US$ half million) from Indian Angel Network (IANs) in August, last year. While buffet search does provides a competitive edge to HB, it is also important for them to scale it up quickly to other places to retain the competency.

What is your take on it?

FYI: HungryZone cofounder Priyanka Sinha has left the team for personal reasons (relocated to Mumbai).

    These guys are still alive!!!
Their website was in a dilapidated state some time back. I was pretty sure they forgot to cancel their hosting.
They’ve lost oo much ground to Burrp, and I for one am not “switching back”, just stick to burrp. Though I must admit, I would be thrilled if Burrp got this :D

      Dear Dheeraj,

Appreciate your feedback. However, its rather unfortunate that you are comparing Hungryzone.com which is a Online food ordering and Table booking site to a Listing site like Burrp.

We are an Interface that allows people not just to select restaurants, scan menus, but to also to Order food or Book a table using the same interface for free (And today we have over 1 lakh dishes available to you). Anyone who has ever been part of the industry will tell you thats its the 3rd part which is the real challenge whereas the first two parts are rather simpler. We have been busy addressing this 3rd part. Not to say that we have perfected it but our new site along with the features that have come long with it and many more that you will see all along the month of Jan is our biggest step towards achieveing this.

Do try our service once and I assure you that you shall not go back hungry.

      Look forward to your support.

      Thanks,
      Jitendra

Thanks for pointing out the difference so clearly Jitendra.

Let me try to articulate my point better.

I am a foodie, and I want to try new restaurants. I want to try new food, but not blindly. I want to see a listing of new places, and what someone thinks about the place. So a listing might be a better feature for a demographic like mine.

I first started using Hungryzone, but over time, I didn’t see many improvements, or much new content, hence i looked for other sites and found Burrp. Since they were crowd sourcing, the reviews weren’t the best, but the list was the best. They also kept doing something or the other innovative (like, list of restaurants i want to go to). Thanks to these, I stuck to burrp and stopped visiting Hungryzone.

When i did have to order food, I would just use the number listed on Burrp and sometimes even the menu was posted.
Times i did return to Hungryzone to check out the site, I noticed the orders didn’t work at times, and the whole user experience was just…. not meant for me. (I did visit it from time to time)

I see you have improved the site from last time, and as you said, you are looking into the 3rd part of the value chain, a sort of last mile in the chain.

What good is the last mile to me, when I get the rest much better on another site??

All that said, I am a foodie looking for new restaurants to try out, and by what you said, this isn’t your sweet spot, maybe i’m just not part of the user demographic you are expecting… Though, I can vouch for all my other foodie friends, that Burrp solves our problem better.

I am not saying your site is no good. I only felt this compulsive need (not sure why), to say the site WAS no good for me, hence i went away to Burrp, and Now I am not coming back, no matter which part of the value chain you are a part of.

Usability needs improvement. For example, search by timing – breakfast, lunch or dinner…

  3. priya on December 28, 2009 at 8:41 pm

This seems like a pretty neat feature

BTW dheeraj you seem like a burrp employee or a promoter…
one cannot order food, or even book a table through burrp… it doesnt harm to appreciate people…

    • Dheeraj on December 29, 2009 at 11:04 am

Damn, did i sound that biased? :D

No, I am not a Burrp employee, but a Burrp regular.
I did appreciate them, the feature is cool, and I’d love to see this on Burrp, becauae Burrp has a listing too…..

But as you pointed out, it could just be my bias.

    Thats really a good initiative.

BTW Priya, its good that people criticize…Criticism often leads to improvement (if these guys really want to make a place for themselves).

I’ve been using the website since quite sometime now and their service has only gotten better which is very satisfactory to me!
Although Burrp is a good website it does not satisfy one thing and that is hunger where as hungryzone does:)The new website is a good step forward which means that they are no longer dilapidated and means we are going to be served better.. So looking forward to some thing more cooler from this service but for now “GOOD JOB” guys\m/

Its good aspect, like online parenting, baby care booking, online real estate booking, and now online food booking……

    Good Improvement and unique thinking
