How not to reach out to Bloggers

While we receive loads of emails asking us to profile their ‘ventures (which in some cases are a clone with no sense, sometimes, just a domain name change of an earlier venture), this one is surely worth mentioning

Dear blogger
We have been observing you on your blog space for quite a long time and your writing truly is a refreshing piece of cookie on internet. There is no doubt that your writing skills especially been observed through your blog has a real potential and quit persuasive for readers.

Therefore , it is our pleasure to introduce <blah>

The email was BCCed to bloggers – how many of them would profile a service like this, which doesn’t even care to build relationship.

PR, especially in new media is all about building relationships and shouldn’t be confused with mass marketing.

What’s your opinion?

      So True,
This one in particular sounds like a link exchange request:)

Building connection is the key here i guess. There is no point in balantly asking the blogger to write about their venture.
I presume the plausible thing could be to give a teaser to the nivhe bloggers about the product being launched. If the product is any good, atleast half of them will consider writing about it anywas.

However,I would be more than delighted to read “How to reach out to bloggers” post here if u plan to do that:)

All one needs to do is spend 15 mins to write a proper, customised mail. The enquiry can go directly to your spam mail folder!

I thought Akismet- WordPress would filter out such messages anyway.
But, you anyway have a contact email address. And, anyone following your blog knows that you are pretty generous with space for Indian startups; heck, they are the reason you exist!
When I launch mine, I would send you a link to my website with a simple:

Dear Ashish, We have launched this MS/ Google/ SF/ Zoho killer. Here’s why we think you should care- (50 words) and before the world starts talking about it, here’s your chance to be the first :-) ; here’s the link. And, BTW, here’s my mobile if you want to chat.

      Think that would do?

most mails would claim the same and will put off the blogger…They are there because they have a mind of their own, insights and knowledge of the space…thats why people follow what they write…they dont need us to tell them if you will be killer…or extinct…their job is to report what they find exciting and meaningful enough…
