Telecom News: 3G Auction to go Online, Airtel Redefines Broadband Speed

3G Auction is scheduled for April 9th and the bidding will happen online on DoT’s website.

From March end to April, DoT expects traffic surge and is putting up the necessary infrastructure to manage the expected traffic [which we sincerely hope doesn’t meet the same fate as CAT's online saga].

The simultaneous, ascending auction designed by auctioneer N M Rothschild enables competitors to bid from their own computer with only the value of the highest bid and number of bidders in each round for each circle visible to each player. Individual bid values are not available to the bidders. – source

Airtel Redefines Broadband Speed

Airtel has announced that it will upgrade all the existing customers from 64,128 and 256 kbps to 512 kbps without any extra charge.

Essentially, the minimum Broadband speed for Airtel subs will be 512 KBPS – it’s time other players start thinking on the same lines.

So someone who was paying for 64kbps ( ie the least paying customer gets most benefit) while someone who was already at 512Kbps gets zilch.

I suppose, you meant, 512 kbps.

Also, according to this report, subscribers with 512 kbps and 1 mbps connection will be upgraded to twice as much speed.

One key details is the current Fair Usage restrictions still apply at the higher speed.
